Did any of you catch the lovely Betty Vinson of the VA Chapter of the 99's on Channel 8's 9 a.m. newscast? She did an excellent job promoting the Christimas Toy Airlift, which will take place on Saturday at Chesterfield County Airport from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Toys will be collected at airports around the state until Saturday when volunteer pilots from each location will fly them into Chesterfield County Airport. New and unwrapped underwear, socks, baseball caps, fleece lap blankets, shower shoes and toiletries will also be collected. Also needed are gift cards from Ben Franklin, Target and Wal-Mart for snacks and supplies for McGuire’s Veterans’ Hospital and gift cards from Sheetz and Wawa for gasoline for veterans’ outings.
Santa will fly into Chesterfield Airport at 10 a.m. and greet children inside the terminal until 2 p.m. There will also be a static display of warbirds and live Christmas music throughout the day.
A rain date is scheduled for Dec. 12. Hot lunches will be available for purchase.
If unable to attend, donations can be dropped off at the following airports: Dinwiddie, Chesterfield, New Kent and Hanover; and the following businesses: Batters Choice, 3105 S. Crater Rd. in Petersburg, and The Hopewell News in Hopewell.
