EAA's "Salute to Veterans" B-17 Tour will stop at Leesburg Executive Airport. EAA Chapter 186 will be hosting the event. This one-of-a-kind tour brings the beautifully restored B-17 Flying Fortress "Aluminum Overcast" to local airports across the nation for flight experiences and walk-through tours. Out of more than 12,000 that were built, this aircraft is one of a handful of airworthy B-17's still flying. 2010 Dulles Family Day & Plane Pull will be held at Washington Dulles International Airport. A benefit for Special Olympics Virginia, the pull is a fun team competition to see which group can pull a 164,000+ pound Airbus the fastest. Teams are made up of 25 members, who all line up adjacent to a huge rope attached to the aircraft. The starter signals when to start and starts the stopwatch. After the team pulls the aircraft 12 feet, the stopwatch stops and the elapsed time is recorded as the team score. But it's more than just a Plane Pull! An entire festival has grown up around the competition and features a wide range of events and activities for the entire family. Wings & Wheels is an annual car and air show located at Hummel Airfield in Topping. This rain-or-shine festival provides a great all-day experience for family and friends. In addition to dozens of automobiles and aircraft, food and craft vendors are located throughout the festival grounds for all visitors. There is free admittance for visitors; however, donations are appreciated. Parking is also available within walking distance with an appreciated $5.00 donation to the fire department.
