New TSA procedures to be implemented Friday

Passengers of the nation’s 450 commercial service airports will now be subjected to new procedures for air travel. The Transportation Security Administration will implement new procedures including a new pat-down protocol for the passenger screening checkpoint and requiring additional personal data to be provided at the moment of booking a ticket.

The new pat-down protocol, beginning Friday, Oct. 29, will be more invasive for passengers who are subject to enhanced screening. The pat-down procedures will include full body, flat palm pat-downs. At airports where back scatter x-ray scanners (full body x-rays) are available, passengers will be required to submit to either the full body x-ray or the enhanced full body pat-down.

Also, on Nov.1, all passengers will be required to provide additional personal data when booking air travel as part of the TSA’s Secure Flight plan. Passengers must provide their full name as it appears on their government issued ID, their date of birth, and their gender when making airline reservations.
